SHETLAND RED STARS WIN MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
The first East Long Beach All-star tournament championship for 2008 was won by the Shetland Red All-stars over Memorial Day weekend. Manager Jesse Martinez and his staff (Augie Zepeda, Lynn Frehner, and Davon Graham) had the boys playing great defense throughout the event, as the team swept through with a record of 4-0 to win the title. The offense was explosive, outscoring the opponents 84-41. Check out the All-Star pages for more detailed info on the tournament victory.

ELB CHARITY TEAM BASKET RAFFLE
Thanks to all the teams who donated the baskets for this years Charity Event! It was a great turnout as well as the Managers/Coaches/Parent Softball Game!! There was a long line at the store for Epsom Salt we predict!
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
This year's charity event was a great success. All of the teams came up with great themed basket ideas, and we raised the highest amount of money in the past several years. Totaling up sales of merchandise, the basket raffle, 50% of the total sales from the snack bar on Saturday and Sunday, and the charity softball event....we raised a total of $4,100.00. As the President of ELB, it makes me very proud of the fact that our league gives back to our community so generously. I'm sure that this will become an ELB tradition that will carry on for years to come. Many thanks to all of you who participated.
- Darin Reinhardt, ELB President
ELB PURPOSE ELB exists to provide a place for the kids in our community to play baseball. Over the years, the level of talent in our league has increased mainly due to the participation of many of our players in travel baseball. However, lets not lose sight of the fact that ELB is NOT a travel baseball league. As managers and coaches of ELB, we need to remember that our primary goal is to develop ALL players on the team by teaching them the game of baseball.

2008 ANNUAL SOFTBALL CHARITY EVENT
I want to personally thank all of you who participated in this year’s charity softball event. A great big thank you to Yvette Martinez for running this year’s tournament, and to Mario Ortiz for supplying the umpires. The tournament was a tremendous success!
After all of the 'Ben Gay' and the 'Icy Hot' was used up, only two teams were left to battle for the championship.....the Pinto Phillies and the Mustang Brakees! (A combination of the Braves and the Yankees).
After a long back and forth fight, the Brakees were able to overcome the tenaciously tough Phillies squad, and claimed the ELB 2008 Softball Championship.
Congratulations to all the teams that participated. It was a lot of fun to be a part of.
